Prevention of Neonatal Jaundice with Maternal Antipyrine Treatment in 12 Rh^(+), 0 type Mothers




Abstract
Recently, antipyrine was. known as an effective activator of glucuronyl transferase in liver.
A controlled trial of antipyrine in. the prophylaxis of neonatal jaundice was done in 12 pregnant women whose blood type were Rh(+), 0. We compared the mean of third day total bilirubin of newborns between treated group and control group. Treated group was consisted of 12 newborns from healthy normal full term pregnant women who took 300mg of antipyrine daily at least 8 days. Each treated case paired with control neonate who has similar birth weight and gestational age
The mean bilirubin concentration on 3rd day after birth were 8.87mg/100ml in control group and 5.83mg/-00ml in treated group respectively.
We found no side effects of antipyrine in mothers and newborns on physical examination and peripheral blood picture.
